As we prepare for the start of school please take a look at the school calendar. August 15 is our Back to School Celebration, and the first day of school is August 20.

Parents, We are requesting that you update your final forms by July 15 so that we can begin planning our bus routes for next school year. We appreciate your help with this!

This last Tuesday our cafeteria staff handed out 303 meal packages at the high school and 101 at Cridersville. This amounts to seven breakfasts and seven lunches per child. Thank you to our staff for doing this for our community!
Tuesdays through Aug 6.

Our students traveling abroad spent the last two days exploring Madrid and Toledo. They were able to learn about the history of Spain over the last few days, visiting the Prado Art Museum, the Royal Palace, the Royal Cathedral, and then seeing all that Toledo had to offer.
The pictures we have shared are our students at the Prado Art Museum. a group of students standing at Kilometer Zero - the exact center of Spain. and another of the entire group outside of Toledo.

Our students touring France are having a great time. Today we received pictures from the Palace of Versailles and the Eiffel Tower. We are glad that so many were able to take advantage of the opportunity.

The band program did an outstanding job on Tuesday evening! It has been a year of growth, excellent concerts, and high marks for all of our performers. Proud of this group and their teachers!

All afterschool events scheduled for tonight are cancelled or postponed, this includes Kindergarten Signing. Coaches and event organizers will provide details at a later time for when events will be rescheduled.

The robotics team is competing in qualification matches today and tomorrow in Cleveland. Below is their tentative schedule and the live stream link. An email will be sent out about two matches before they are up. They are team 9075 and have a taller robot. In short, the goal this season is to pick up orange rings and shoot them into a goal and then at the end of the game, lift your robot off of the ground on a chain.

Wapakoneta City Schools will be operating on a two hour delay on Friday, March 15. We have some residents still without power, there are rural roads closed, and sunlight will allow for people to navigate roads that may have water/debris.
Please keep our families who lost their homes in your prayers. Also those in other communities such as St. Marys and Indian Lake.

One of our high school Spanish teachers, Alexis Blum will be presenting at the Central States Languages for All Regional Conference on Saturday, March 16th, representing Ohio and the Ohio Foreign Language Association. Her session, "Let Me Try!" was voted by fellow OFLA members as the "Best of Ohio" at the conference held this past summer. Alexis will present on instructional activities, methods, and assessment of upper level language learners (levels 3, 4, and beyond).
We are proud of Alexis and all of our outstanding staff members at WCS!

Tomorrow at the high school only our juniors will attend to take that ACT. Students in grades 8, 9, 10 and 12 will not be required to be at school. The middle school, Wapakoneta Elementary, and Cridersville will have a normal school day.

Wapakoneta City Schools will be operating on a 2 hour delay schedule on Wednesday, March 6 due to staff professional development.

Congratulations to Lizzy Sidener on becoming the 100 Breaststroke Sectional Champion!

As you are aware, a Solar Eclipse will be taking place on April 8 this year. We are expecting a great deal of visitors and traffic in Wapakoneta, and the surrounding area.
The path of the eclipse passes over our community in the early afternoon near our dismissal time. Due to this we will not be having school that day. Our teachers will be planning learning activities that involve the eclipse and will share these with our young people as the date approaches.
Our goal is for the kids to experience the eclipse, provide fun/meaningful learning activities, and to keep them at home and away from the congestion.
The district has been in communication with other school districts and the local agencies to make sure we are all on the same page when it comes to planning for April 8.
If you have questions please reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Aaron Rex
