Message from Mr. Rex

Celebrate another excellent school year!

On May 22 we ended the school year and celebrated our seniors on May 23!

There are so many things to be proud of this year. Our young people achieved in the classroom, on the stage, the sporting fields, and more.

Here are a few of this year's highlights:

  • When Governor Dewine gave his State of the State address in March he highlighted one school district in our state-Wapakoneta City Schools.  We were recognized for implementing the science of reading and its impact on our students.

  • In grades 3-7 we started a new reading series that has helped students build the knowledge and skills they need to be successful readers.  Next year we will push this series down to kindergarten through second grade.

  • The class of 2026 will graduate on May 23 and will receive 2.6 million dollars in scholarships.  $500,000 dollars comes directly from this community.  We thank you for supporting our students.

  • Our band and choir programs received excellent and superior ratings at the state competition.

  • Our football team won its record-setting seventh straight Western Buckeye League title.  This senior class only lost one regular season WBL game over their four year career.

  • In the second year of our Opportunity for Youth program we graduated 15 students who were at risk of not graduating with their class.

  • The wrestling program set the new record for WBL titles, it carried on another record sending wrestlers to state 34 years in a row, and the team finished 6th in Divison II.

  • Our students took part in community service projects throughout Wapakoneta.

  • The Wapakoneta Intership progam placed 72 students in businesses, the school, industry, the medical field, and more helping them earn valuable experiences, college scholarships, and jobs.

I am always amazed at how quickly a school year passes us by. This summer offers a time to reflect on what was achieved, find time to rest and spend time with family, and at Wapakoneta City Schools it is also a time to plan for the next year.

We are fortunate to live and work in Wapakoneta. I want to thank all of our parents and this community for supporting the school system. As a school we will work to keep you informed over the summer so you are prepared for the 2026/2027 school year.

If you should have an questions or concerns about any of this information, please contact me directly at rexaa@wapak.org or 419-739-2900 if you ever need anything.

Thank you and Go Redskins,
