Federal Grant Notification

Wapakoneta City Schools annually applies for the federal Title grants, which are focused on Reading and Math instruction, as well as staff development. Parents are invited to provide any input on how those funds should be utilized or are welcome to that they may request information regarding professional qualifications of their students' teachers and paraprofessionals by contacting Aaron Rex, Superintendent at 419-739-2900 or rexaa@wapak.org.

Parents' Right to Know

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Section 1112(e), parents have the right to receive information about their child's teachers and the assessments used to measure student learning.

Professional Qualifications of Teachers (Section 1112(e)(1)(A))

Parents of students attending a Title I school have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher(s).

Upon request, the district will provide information regarding whether the teacher:

  • Meets Ohio's certification and licensure requirements for the grade level and subject area taught.

  • Is teaching under emergency or provisional status in which state qualification or licensure requirements have been waived.

  • Is teaching in the field of discipline for which they are certified.

  • Is supported by paraprofessionals and, if so, information regarding their qualifications.

Parents may request this information by contacting their child's school principal.

Assessment Information & Parent Rights (Section 1112(e)(2)(A), (B), & (C))

Wapakoneta City Schools believes assessments are an important part of monitoring student learning and informing instruction. Parents have the right to request information regarding state and district assessment policies, including any applicable procedures related to student participation in assessments.

State and District Assessments

The following information is provided for each assessment administered in Wapakoneta City Schools:

  • Source of the Assessment Requirement (Federal, State, or District)

  • Approximate Testing Window and Estimated Testing Time

  • How and When Results Are Shared with Families

Ohio State Tests (OST)

Subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies (applicable grade levels)

Purpose: Measure student proficiency on Ohio's Learning Standards and meet state accountability requirements.

Requirement: Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW)

Testing Window: Spring (additional windows as determined by ODEW)

Results: Student scores are updated in ProgressBook. Individual Student Reports are provided to families when released by the state.

District Benchmark Assessments (DIBELS and MAP)

Subjects: English Language Arts and Mathematics

Purpose: Monitor student progress throughout the year, identify learning needs, and guide instructional decisions.

Requirement: District

Testing Window: Multiple benchmark windows throughout the school year

Results: Shared with families through printed assessment family reports

Classroom Assessments

Teachers regularly use formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and adjust instruction.

These assessments help teachers provide timely feedback and ensure students are progressing toward grade-level expectations.
