Wapakoneta High School Class of 1967

  • Humanitarian, Visionary, Archaeologist, Artist, Creator.

  • Credited for finding, along with his nephew, a beaver log dating back 11,500 years.

  • Credited with discovering the 18th century Fort Pickawellany in Miami County.

  • Has interviewed the last surviving Civil War Veteran, surviving players who witnessed Babe Ruth’s “shot called home,” last survivor at the Hiroshima Ground Zero.

  • Credited with finding Napoleonic Wars flag pole tops, oldest known coins from a Florida beach, photograph of Revolutionary War veteran and a medallion that commemorates the marriage of Louis XV to Marie Leczinka of Poland.

Wapakoneta High School Class of 1969

  • Earned a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War.

  • Winner of the “Hammer” Award, presented by VP Al Gore, presented because of his work with Bar Code Medication Administration System for veterans.

  • Worked to expand Gateway programs in several Ohio counties.

  • Helped create Early Learning Initiatives in several counties and contributed to opening Head Start Programs.

  • Represented Chapter 73 at the American Veteran Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington D.C., 2014.

Dr. Jeffrey B. Travers

  • Sees patients at the Dayton VA and conducts pharmaceutical studies testing new treatments for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis and a melanoma vaccine.

Wapakoneta High School Class of 1980

  • Graduated from the Ohio State University with a BS in Chemistry, MD and PhD in Pharmacology.

  • Was at Indiana University for 20 years, where he spent almost a decade as Chairman of the Dermatology Department.

  • Since 2015, he has been the chairman of the Pharmacology Department and Professor of Dermatology at Wright State University.

  • His research on skin cancer and how sunlight affects the skin is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the US Veterans Administration, with total funding of over 10 million dollars.

Wilbur "Jake" Schneider (Deceased)

Wapakoneta High School Class of 1965

  • Army Military Police officer and E6 Staff Sargent for The Department of Intelligence in South Korea.

  • Became member of the Secret Service in Washington D.C.

  • Earned the privilege of guarding several presidents: Ford, Carter, Regan and Bush. Guarded several foreign dignitaries such as Mikhail Gorbachev and The Royal family of England.

  • A pioneer in revamping and setting up college campus securities.

  • Buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
