Kelleys Island State Park (Kelleys Island, OH): There are numerous nature areas to visit, but the most intriguing area is the Glacial Grooves at the intersection of Division St. and Titus Rd.
Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park (Lima, OH) : Enjoy the outdoors at this location or stop by during one of their many nature presentations.
Fossil Park (Sylvania, OH) : You can hunt for fossils from the Devonian Era.
Hueston Woods State Park (Preble/Butler Counties): There are several areas to look for Ordovician Era fossils. You can camp, swim, and walk the trails. One of the trails also begins at a prehistoric Indian mound.
Serpent Mound (Peebles, OH) : This Nation Historic Landmark has the serpent effigy mound along with 3 burial mounds formed by the Adena and Fort Ancient cultures.
Johnston Farm & Indian Agency (Piqua, OH): There are tours that take you through pioneer and early Native American life. They also have a replica canal boat that visitors can ride in.
Ohio Village (Columbus, OH) : This recreated 19th century community has many reenactments throughout the summer months.
New Bremen and St. Marys have several areas where you can walk the canals.
Ohio State Courthouse: There are tours given at the statehouse showing the House and Senate chambers. The Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center offers exhibits that encourage visitors to participate in the state government process by making decisions, expressing their opinions, comparing viewpoints and by voting.
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (Cincinnati, OH) : This exhibit shares the stories of freedom’s heroes, from the era of the Underground Railroad to contemporary times.
The John Rankin House (Ripley, OH) : Built in 1828, it was home to abolitionist John Rankin, and was one of the original stops on the Underground Railroad.
The Bicycle Museum of America (New Bremen, OH) : The museum is one of the largest private collections of bicycles in the world.
National Museum of the US Air Force (Riverside, OH) : This museum is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world.
Logan County History Center (Bellefontaine, OH): The Logan County Museum includes more than a dozen rooms dedicated to a particular theme, area, or subject of Logan County or American history. These include an Indian/Early Logan County Room, Underground Railroad Room, One-Room School exhibit, Doctor’s Office, Toy Room, General Store, Military Room, and others.
Allen County Museum and Historical Society (Lima, OH): There are a wide variety of exhibits that include a large locomotive, vintage vehicles/carriages, Native American artifacts, and fossils.
Mazza Museum (Findlay, OH): The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum is the world’s largest collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators. The Museum’s goal is to promote literacy and enrich the lives of all people through the art of picture books.
