Happy Birthday today to Victoria Harpole and Rylee Doran. 

 

Students, this is a reminder that Redskin Rewards Cards are due to your Homeroom Teacher tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27th. They can be turned in at the beginning of the day or the end of the day. 

 

Just for $1 dress up for Halloween this friday raising money for cancer awareness. The people with the best group costumes, best costume, and the best teacher costume will each win a price. Tag whs_octagon on your post on Instagram and Facebook page with your costumes.

 

To help raise cancer awareness, everyone is invited to write the names of loved ones who have fought or are currently fighting cancer on the purple chain links papers during lunch in the cafeteria.

 

Seniors:  Interested in working at Proctor and Gamble?  There will be a live video conference on Tuesday, October 27 at 9am.  Sign up in the guidance office.

 

Seniors:  If you are interested in attending a technical or trade school you may want to come to a video presentation from Universal Technical College.  A representative will discuss the changing workforce and how to become a motorcycle or marine mechanic.  This presentation will be Wednesday, October 28 at 7:45am.  Sign up in the guidance office.


Juniors/Seniors if you are interested in learning more about careers as a diesel, marine,  motorcycle, or NASCAR  mechanic please attend a live virtual meeting with Universal Technical Institute on Wednesday, October 28 from 7:35-8:15.  Sign up in the guidance office!


The Gatekeepers will be hosting a MASK-querade on Friday, October 30.  Signs will be posted this week announcing the categories.  Get your creative juices flowing!!!  There will be prizes for each category!


The deadline for the December 12 ACT is November 6.  Sign up today to avoid late fees.  


The College Board is offering another opportunity to take the PSAT on January 26, 2021.  This test is the opportunity to enter into the National Merit Scholarship program as a junior.   If you want to take the test prior to your junior year, it's good practice for both the PSAT and standardized testing in general.  Sign up is in the Guidance Office.  The cost is $17.  See Mrs. Epperly with questions.


Owens Community College is hosting a virtual meeting about Transportation Technologies on Tuesday, November 17.  If interested, email Mrs. Epperly in the Guidance Office.  She will help you set up a meeting.


There are application forms in the Guidance Office for those considering the Pipe Trades.  You must be eighteen to apply.  Stop in to get a form.

 

Meetings

There will be an informational meeting for the 2020-2021 Winter flag line on Monday October 26, 2020 right after school. We will meet in the cafeteria. 


The Gatekeepers meet Tuesday, October 27, in the PAC.  The meeting begins and 7:45, and all are welcome!!!


Scholarships

The Hagan Scholarship is available to seniors in Auglaize County due to the size of our county.  If you need money for school, check them out online.  This program is designed to help you graduate debt free after college.


The GE-Reagan Foundation has a scholarship program available to interested students.  Check them out online.  The deadline to apply is January 5, 2021.  Get started today!


Sports

Congratulations to our HS Cross Country Teams competing at Districts this past Saturday.  Great times were ran by many runners to finish out the 2020 season.  Senior Nate Metzger qualified to run at Division 1 Regionals in Tiffin this coming Saturday, October 31.  He’s the first Wapak male runner to make it to Regionals since 2015! Congratulations Nate!! 


There will be an open gym Tuesday for any 8th grade boy interested in playing basketball this season.  The open gym will be at the middle school from 3:30-5:00.
