Public education continues to change and Wapakoneta
City Schools are changing with it. Our purpose
to provide the "best educational experience
for our children with a vision to future."
A common vision begins with schools that work in
partnership with the community, parents, and staff to
ensure that all children have an opportunity to
develop to their full potential. The goal is
quality schools. They come in many shapes
and sizes and in different communities across our
country. However, most quality schools have a
number of common characteristics, according to the
National Parent-Teacher Association. Findings in
their most recent study are as follows:
- Mission-Quality schools have goals and
objectives based on a mission.
- Funding and Financial Management-All
levels of government, including the state, must
share the responsibility for providing adequate
and equitable school funding.
- Academic Programs-Quality schools offer
academic programs that provide students with a
diverse opportunity to master high academic
standards and develop life-long learning skills, including
sound reading skills and mathematic ability,
electronic communication, civics education,
quality science and art education, and collecting
and critically analyzing information.
- Assessments-Quality schools develop and
use multiple measurements that reflect different
kinds of knowledge and skills that are expected of
students. Special support is provided to
those who fall below standards and expectations.
- Teaching and Staff-Quality schools help
support and develop each student's individual
strengths and talents. Quality schools also
have an expectation of student behavior and performance
and encourage student responsibility and good
citizenship.

citizenship.
- Community and Parents-Quality schools
foster community, parent, and business involvement
that result in positive partnerships.
Community resources are used to coordinate a safe
environment needed so children can learn.
- Climate and Facilities-The climate and
facilities of quality schools welcome students,
staff, parents, community members, and promote a
safe educational environment. Buildings are
well maintained and must be safe and offer
sufficient space for learning as well as have
support in today's educational technology needs.
- Governance-The governance structure of quality
school is guided by clear policies set by the
Board of Education and effectively managed by
administrative personnel who are effective
managers and instructional leaders.
The Wapakoneta City Schools are committed to
supporting these characteristics of quality school
systems and want our schools to be places that create
a sense of belonging and foster a culture of learning,
respect, and caring between students and adults.
This year we trained our entire staff on Quality Tools
to assist us in our quest. Thank you again for
supporting our schools and working together each day.
We appreciate the opportunity you have given us to
make positive differences in the lives of our
students.
