One of my goals when I was first elected to the
School Board was to get a school bond issue passed
so we could build new schools and renovate the
buildings we intended to keep. Thanks to the
work of the BEST Committee, many volunteers, and the
voting public, the school bond issue passed.
My new goals are to see that we build state of the
art schools and renovate our existing schools on
time and on budget. I look forward to seeing teachers
and students energized and excited about their
learning environment. I know this energy will
translate to improved learning and teaching.
I would like to see some single sex classes at
the high school. Studies show students learn
better when divided into two classrooms of boys and girls.
We need to always try and improve the way our
students learn.
Also, I would like to investigate a uniform
policy for our district. Studies show uniforms
improve student learning and behavior. It cuts
down time spent by administrators disciplining
students. It practically eliminates morning
battles over clothing at home and it reduces
clothing expenses for parents. |
I am on the Finance Committee and the Student
Achievement Liaison Committee. With respect to
the finance Committee, we are now having regular
meetings one hour before every Board meeting to review
and discuss all budget items for regular school
operation, as well as the budget for the OSFC
project. My goal is to make sure every penny
is spent wisely and that we maintain our financial
goals as set by our treasurer, Susan
Rinehart.
The Student Achievement Committee is my favorite
committee because I get to interact with the students
and learn about all of the wonderful things they do
to make our schools and community better places to
be. I am always looking for better ways to
honor their achievements and to let them know how
proud we are of them. I would like to add an
employee recognition component to this committee as
well, to honor those employees who go above and
beyond the call of duty.
Go Redskins!
