Third Grade

Third Grade made Watercolor Wash pond habitats along with bugs, animals and plant life that would be found there.

For the bugs, animals and plants, we did watercolor resist using white oil pastel to outline our pencil lines.  They were instructed to glue their inhabitants on their pond background using a well thought out composition.

Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade studied Chinese New Year and Sumi-E painting techniques.

The students painted a monochromatic background then painted bamboo and leaves on a separate paper.  The bamboo was then stuck onto the background with 3-DO’s, little Styrofoam pieces that give a 3-D effect.  To finish it off, they made their own signature stamp to put at the bottom.

First Grade

First Grade studied the chameleon.

We learned how to draw this reptile and the jungle leaves where it would live on a separate piece of paper.  After drawing both, we painted our chameleons in their habitat at night.  Then we cut the chameleon out and stuck it to the painted jungle leaves with a 3-DO.  The 3-DO helps the chameleon be a little more three dimensional.  The students were instructed to try to “fool the school” by placing their chameleon on their leaves so that it was camouflaged as a chameleon might be.

                        Can you find the chameleon?
