Professional Development

At Wapakoneta City Schools, we are commited to providing support and resources that actively engage all members of the school community in continuous professional growth.  Ultimately, we hope to design and implement professional development that will help support our staff as they become the leaders in providing excellent learning experiences for our students.

2019-2020 District Wide Professional Development Schedule

August 15

Full-Day Professional Development 7:45-3:00 (Lunch provided from 11am-12pm)

Certified Staff and Para-educators and Secretaries will attend:

8-9:15 District Wide Staff Meeting (PAC)

9:30-11 Building Staff Meetings

11-12 Lunch Provided

12-3 Professional development sessions tentatively focusing on a variety of topics.  Tentative Agenda Items may include: Mandated Reporter, Trauma Informed Care, ABA, Tech Make and Take, Go Noodle, Genius Hour, Standard Based Grading Roundtable, Modeling and Project Based Learning, State of the District (including Tech), Organization for Teachers, Intervention Documentation Roundtable, and/or Students with Anxiety; Gifted and the Classroom Teacher Overview

Half-Day Professional Development-7:45-11:30

Certified Staff will participate in team planning and preparation for the school year

Full Day Professional Development

Staff members will be participate in data analysis, instructional planning based on data analysis and intervention planning based on data analysis.  Electives/Arts may visit other districts.



October 11

WOEA DAY - No School for Staff

WEA Negotiated Agreement 15.14.1a:  Six contact hours of professional development between June 1 through May 31 may annually be substituted for WOEA Day with the certificates of attendance provided as documentation by May 31 of that school year. Acceptable staff development includes the following, but is not limited to: college classes, Wapakoneta City Schools after-school training, building book studies, and seminars outside of the school day. Contact hours issued for district committee meetings, paid professional leave, or Association meetings will not be considered for this provision. Association members attending WOEA Day events shall provide certificates of attendance for a minimum of four contact hours. Staff members who do not achieve six hours of staff development outside of WOEA Day shall have their salaries reduced proportionately, based on their per diem rate,

by the second pay in June.

  • Math Series PD for K-7

  • Writing 5-7

  • Resources Tour (Factories, Small Businesses, Apollo, UNOH and JDC) 8-12
