Professional Development

At Wapakoneta City Schools, we are commited to providing support and resources that actively engage all members of the school community in continuous professional growth.  Ultimately, we hope to design and implement professional development that will help support our staff as they become the leaders in providing excellent learning experiences for our students.

2018/19 District Wide Professional Development Schedule


August 16

Half-Day Professional Development-7:45-11:30

Certified Staff and Classified Staff will attend district and building wide staff meetings. (Public School Works 10:15-11:30 open lab at WHS)

August 21


Full-Day Professional Development 7:45-3:00 (Lunch provided from 11am-12pm)

Certified Staff and Para-educators will attend professional development sessions focusing on

  • Data Review and Assessment Set Up  (AM: PK-4; PM: 5-12)

  • Safety Medical Training/Active Shooter Training (secretaries must attend) (PM: PK-4; AM: 5-12)

August 29

Early Dismissal/District Faculty Meetings (will conclude by 4:00)  

TBD by BLT and Principals

Tentative Agenda Items may include:  technology integration, research-based instruction strategies, meeting the needs of students with disabilities and meeting the needs of students that are identified as Gifted or other school improvement initiatives, identification of common mental health concerns in students.

Septem-ber 26

Early Dismissal/District Faculty Meetings (will conclude by 4:00)

Full-Day Professional Development 7:45-3:10 (Lunch provided from 11:30-12:30)

ALL STAFF, including Transportation, Food Services, Secretarial, Custodial

A representative from Ruby Payne‚Äôs office will help us to focus on helping students from poverty:  Understand hidden rules of economic class and effects on behaviors and mindsets; Develop stronger relationships with students to impact behavior; Reduce discipline referrals


November 19

Full-Day Professional Development 7:45-3:10

Certified Staff and Para-educators and secretaries will attend professional development sessions tentatively focusing on a variety of topics.  Tentative Agenda Items may include: technology integration, research-based instruction strategies, meeting the needs of students with disabilities and meeting the needs of students that are identified as Gifted or other school improvement initiatives, identification of common mental health concerns in students.



January 11
