Charlie Doepker: Jazz

First Sargeant (Ret.) Charles Doepker is a 1969 graduate of Ottawa Glandorf High School and a 1973 graduate of Bluffton University with a B.A. degree in Music Education. After two years at Continental Local Schools as the band director, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army on June 12, 1975 and began a career of over 22 years in Army Bands. During his career he had two overseas tours in Germany totaling over eight years. He is a combat veteran of the first Gulf War serving with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band and received the Bronze Star medal for his actions in combat. Charlie retired on October 1, 1997 as First Sargeant/Enlisted Bandleader and now resides in Ottawa, Ohio with his wife Jane of 40 years. He currently teaches privately and also is a substitute teacher for Ottawa-Glandorf and Sts. Peter and Paul Schools.
