Board of Education

Ron Mertz

Mr. Mertz has served on the Board since January 1, 2000.  Ron currently is employed at Dana Corporation in Lima Ohio as a Maintenance Software and Parts Specialist.  He is married to his high school sweetheart, Elaine (Jones).  They have three daughters, four grandsons, and two granddaughters.  Mr. Mertz is community minded and feels "you need to get invoved.  That's how we can ALL make a difference."  Ron is retired from the Cridersville Fire Department with 40 years of service, ten as Chief.  He is a member of Harvest Baptist Church and is a supporter of Redskin Arts and Sports Programs.

Joshua Little

Vice President
Mr. Little began serving on the Board of Education in November of 2015.  He is currently employed as the CEO of the Wapakoneta Family YMCA.  He began serving on the Board in order to serve his community.  His mother started her teaching career in Wapakoneta, and having two children (and one in the future) attending Wapakoneta City Schools he wanted to work with the teachers, support staff, adminstrators, and other Board of Education members to continue to make Wapakoneta City Schools the leader in academics, sports, arts and leader-building.  Josh and his wife, Amy, have three children.  He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta Knights of Columbus, Wapakoneta Rotary Club (Past President), Wapakoneta Sertoma Club (Past President), Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist Club, Ohio Alliance of YMCAs (Past Chair), Former Board Member and President of the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, and a Former Board Member of Wapakoneta Loaves and Fishes.

Patrick Gibson

Mr. Gibson has served on the Board of Education since 2008.  His main reason for wanting to serve was to be more involved in the community.  Pat has been employed at Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua for the past 23 years.  He currently serves as their Director of Business Operations.  Working out of town, Mr. Gibson finds it difficult to be an active member of many service organizations in Wapakoneta, so he sees serving on the Board as an opportunity for community service.  Pat and his wife, Anna, have been married for 40 years.  They have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.  Mr. Gibson is a member of the Piqua Kiwanis.  He also serves on the Upper Valley Career Center Education Foundation Board as well as several other committees with the UVCC.  He is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and former member of its Parish Council.

Brian Cossel

Mr. Cossel is one of our newest board members, serving since January 2018.  He is a familiar face around Wapakoneta as he is employed at the United States Post Office as a mail carrier.  Brian was driven to serve on the Board in order to help the school district in any way possible.  He has previously worked with the children in our district as a coach, as well.  He and his wife Shawna have one son.  He is motivated to help the district knowing that his son is beginning his academic careeer in the near future.

Gregg Ruppert

Mr. Ruppert began serving on the Board in January 2018.  He retired as a teacher from Wapakoneta City Schools.  He is presently working for the City of Wapakoneta Parks and Recreation Department.  He has a desire to help facilitate and continue the tradition of excellence in education in Wapakoneta City Schools.  He has a desire to collaborate with district staff to keep improving and moving the district forward and a desire to see all staff respected and treated fairly and justly.  He has abundant energy and enthusiasm for our community and our school district and has no fear in promoting what is right for staff and students instead of what is popular.  He and his wife Joni have one son.  He is a member of the American Legion #330, Eagles, and attends First United Methodist Church.
